Lacquered furniture at all times was an indicator of the solidity and seriousness of its owner.
The lacquer coating used in our time allows not only to protect the surface, but also to create one or another decorative effect, increasing the attractiveness of the subject.
Unfortunately, time is merciless, and gradually under the influence of various external influences, the plane is covered with cracks and scratches.
This does not mean that you have to throw out furniture close to your heart; there is always a chance to revive it. It is enough to have the willingness to work hard and apply imagination. The result will be the possession of one of a kind handmade items.
Training
Coloring wooden furniture does not require special knowledge. It is important to carefully study the sequence of work and prepare the necessary tools. In addition to the fine-grained sandpaper in each house, a set of screwdrivers, brushes, a spatula and a roller, you will need a metal washcloth, a hairdryer and a grinder.
The list of materials is slightly larger, but also does not contain anything extravagant. You will need washing powder, a solution for removing varnish, a primer, a composition for protecting wood, paint and white spirit.
First you need to wipe the furniture with detergent over the entire surface inside and out. Warming up the canvas with a building hair dryer, gradually remove the varnish with a spatula. One must be extremely careful not to damage the tree.
The next step: in a circular motion to perform sanding paper to smooth the surface and remove residual varnish. At the end of this stage of work - treatment with insect repellents.
Safety precautions
Removing the lacquer coating is required by opening the windows wide, and observing the rules of personal safety: safety glasses, a respirator or mask are mandatory, and rubber gloves are on hand.
Polishing removal
To color the furniture was perfect and uniform, it is recommended to completely remove polishing. For a guaranteed result, you need to apply the product with a brush on a small square area with a side of about 50 cm.
After a short wait, when the composition has not yet dried, and the coating has softened, with a spatula, the coating is aligned in the direction of the fibers. As a rule, the first time a single coat of paint is removed.
The same action should be repeated until natural wood emerges. In the case of hard to reach places, it is recommended to use a toothbrush.
After the lower layer appears, you need to apply a basting compound with a metal washcloth to a square of 30 by 30 cm, then wipe it with paper and let it dry. Then grind with coarse sandpaper to remove hard to remove residues of the mordant or paint.
Restoration and dressing
In small areas of metal wool, the liquid composition is rubbed in a circular motion, which finally dissolves the old coating. After removing all smudges, the surface is wiped with a paper towel.
After rubbing the stain, the furniture should dry for about 12 hours. For dark shades, etch is applied in several layers. The best results for tinting show walnut, chestnut and beech; linden and birch are worse.
The use of wood putty
Coloring old furniture does not tolerate bumps. Cracks and chips can be fixed with quick-drying putty. After its application, repeated sanding is carried out and subsequent priming, which will provide protection from cracks and peeling.
All smudges of the primer are eliminated, and the surface is again rubbed with a fine-grained canvas.
Painting
Acrylic or latex paint is ideal for working with lacquered furniture: it is reliable and evenly applied. First of all, it is necessary to carefully process the inner surface, corners and joints.
The outer plane is painted carefully to avoid gaps or smudges. All retractable structural elements are painted separately, and a special solution is applied to the fittings and fasteners.

If desired, it is possible to use a spray gun, which will ensure uniform distribution of paint and varnish materials on the surface.
The application of paintwork in several layers will allow you to get a more expressive shade, and the use of several colors will give the furniture an extraordinary look.
Gouache application
Coloring furniture with your own hands is not an easy task, but the result is worth the effort. At the end of all preparatory work, gouache is diluted in a solution of wood glue, and then applied using soft wide brushes. Then the furniture needs to be dried and covered with nitrovarnishes.
